About Jenny

Jenny Ryan is a professional quizzer, broadcaster and singer - best known as ‘The Vixen’ on ITV’s smash hit teatime quiz show The Chase and its primetime sister show Beat the Chasers.

Before joining the show in 2015, Jenny was a serial quiz show contestant who you might have seen on shows such as University Challenge, Mastermind, and Only Connect (as one-third of Series 3 champions The Gamblers).

Eagle-eyed quiz fans might also have spotted her name in the credits of shows including Weakest Link and QI, having served her time on the other side of the cameras as a researcher and writer.

As one of the six Chasers on The Chase, Jenny spends her time intimidating contestants (members of the public and celebrities alike), showing off her general knowledge and exchanging barbs with Britain’s favourite host Bradley Walsh. Her official Chaser name is The Vixen, in reference to her red hair and sharp brain; Brad has also given her the nickname ‘The Bolton Brainiac’ in reference to her beloved hometown.

Away from quizzing and scaring people into taking the low offer, Jenny is passionate about music - in particular singing and playing ukulele.

She most notably shared her vocal skills when she took part in the 2019 series X Factor: Celebrity. Jenny sang Queen’s Somebody To Love at the audition phase which took place in Simon Cowell’s garden in Malibu. Although her performance garnered a standing ovation from the panel and music industry guests, she was not selected to go through to the live studio shows.

That was - until there was an enormous push of support from the television audience across social media which persuaded Cowell to change his mind. Jenny did not only take to the stage again, she was voted all the way through to the final, finishing as runner-up to Megan McKenna.

Alongside quiz enthusiast and comedian Lucy Porter, Jenny co-hosts Fingers on Buzzers, the UK’s favourite podcast about quiz shows.

Currently recording their sixth series, Lucy and Jenny share the joy of quiz and take a peek behind the curtains of our most-loved television and radio shows by chatting to everyone from contestants to hosts, question writers to producers. They also discuss news from the world of quiz and indulge in a few questions of their own as Jenny attempts to coach keen amateur Lucy to greater heights as a trivia master.
